The discussion was fairly robust with participation from those who have judged and competed in competions, as well as our current A&S minister and Baronial A&S Minister.
We discussed the various formats that A&S completitons such as bean count, Laurel Sponsoerd, White Wolf Fian and Pentathalon. Unfortunatley we missed one format entitled, "it seemed like a good idea at the time" which celebrates A&S mishaps.
The conversation drifted into research criteria, presentation, documenation of techniques and assupmtions and how to compile that information. It also clarified the expectations for beginner, intermmediate and advanced entry of A&S projects.
But what was most satisfying for me was the explaintion of the various means a person could enter projects at Kingdome A&S. It was comforting to know that projects did not have to be entereed into Pent, but instead could be entered purly for display, judging as indiviual items or as items in the Pentathalon.
I think the takeaway from this was that everyone left feeling encouraged to try entering A&S competitions and displays (Pennsic?), or at the very least a little more confident to do so. The next steps would seem to be to host this discussion again in the spring; and to host an evening session of internal A&S projects review to gain physical perspective of where the projects might best fit when entering competition.
What has been drifting thru my head as I type this is that we reallly should invite the Kingdom A&S Minister to the next session( if possible), to complete the full picture. I'd also like to invite people form out of Canton to participate and share thier thoughts on A&S in general.
I have to thank Medb for creating this oppertunity by mentioning this topic to Angus, our acting Senaschal, as a substitue for an talk that had to be postponed.

But because of the time I spent in search for the replacement Jill, my mind went goofy, the idea of gaining any further strengths on skills or tatctics went out the window..yes I'm goign to blame the distraction. I spent the night just hitting, being hit, and being okay with that. My hips are brusied, but I'm happy for it.
I got to play with Quill's mom, Brigetta. I could have used the time with her to work technique, but we were having way to much fun laugh at each other. It was a Chick fight!
Went a few rounds with Dagmar, a few with Bjarn, and struggles with armoured vs.rapier stances. Mentally I want to be offline, not squared up. I feel planted when squared up. But habits can be broken with time, and I can learn to square up.
Bjarn and Thorolof were coaching me to use what rapier fighting tech I have to my advantage, such as blade transfering. I struggle to see such things as I'm fighting, but remind myself with pactice and practice it will come.
On the way home I gave thougth to something I would like to do on both lists, and that's structureed drill practice, so that the feeling of the throw and recovery becomes instinct. I'd also like the sort out the different skill sets and what I want to work on prior to getting to practice. I'd honestly like to get better so I bring my best to my opponents.
All for now,

My brother's name is Miles Rogers, he's caucasin, just under 6'0", bald, wears a black leather jacket and jeans. Last place of residence was on Simcoe St., Oshawa. He was running his own business unitl the economy took the down turn and his profit with it.
He loves all sorts of animals, so the first 180 is out of character. My parents, in thier search for him, contacted his closest friend. Miles gladly dog sits for this friend, so when they learned he had not shown up to look after the dogs, the cautinary yellow flags went up this afternoon.
My parents have been to his apartment and spoken with his land lord. The landlord said Miles still owed Nov.'s rent, which is also out of character. But the 180 that has set the red flags waving is that Miles has not picked up his mail for a week, when his habit has been to pick it up daily.
He has my parents in a buzz and scared. My Dad is preparing to file a mising person's report with the Oshawa police Monday morning, when Miles will have been officially missing for 48 hours.
I've tried calling his home phone and cell phone, both tell me he is,"currently unavailable". I have no sense of what that means..is it cut off? If he hsan't paid rent, has he paid his phone bills?
I have no idea what to think.

- It is actually possible to block a shot with your sword, as well as your sheild
- It is possible to see shots coming in using the sight line of one eye around the sheild. I was actually getting comfortable with this when I realized I was not wearing my gorget, which was at home in the rapier kit..sigh
Lessons learned from this evenings fight practice

Concerns going & mitigation in included
- not enough people expressing interest in the class ( lesson learned, class description and more advertising required, thank you Alfwen for the commentary)
- not enough hearlds available to help ( my own issue, my timing in arranging for these people was a little on the short side, lesson learned, morte lead time)
- Not the right people to help the combatants help count thier fights ( in the end had to many)
- Order of precedence ALWAYS matters ( thank you Vicountess Morgan)
Observations as the day flowed:
- Having the schedule for the flow of things to happen helped
- I can trust ther person running a class to do so with out any interference from me
- everyone had the same spirit floating about, this was abou thte Art of Defense, the Academi and good sportsman ship..especially THL Albrecht who did not hesitate in declairing for his next attempt for the prize fight.
- Lots of extra hands to help were available and ready to help, more so then I expected
- I have to remeber to eat and drink like everyone else
- I am not a herald..
Fun moments
- when Don Giovanni and Hoskuld tried to fight during the commrads round and I shooed them out of the list for taking up valubale list space from those who were contending
- when thier majesties gave the scarves
- During court, when I was talking with Tanya about banner painting and suddenly got the feeling I should pay attention to court, only to get called in to recieve my Award of Orion...completly got Gobsmacked by that one.
- to be scolded by Mistress Baroness Rachel for not entering any of my illuumination, I've resolved to put stuff out next year

Having a moment to reflect as I road the Go train into work this morning and I realized I had not posted any project items of late and how wonderfull it was to get feed back and encouragment as I posted about what I was doing or wanted to do and explore. So here goes...
Silk Banners
Some of you are aware of my enquiries about silk banner painting, and the encouragment and feedback have been great. The site I was hoping to get for an extended time has not become available and I am concerned about the loss of momentum. Fortunately, there are wonderfull people in the world who like to enable, I'm thinking of Tarian of Ardchreag, who's offered A& S time at thier practice space Monday's..as well as all the other people out ther who have volunteered...So I was thinking, work with a small group out there to get the basics while working on getting time at the original site. Then do a larger group of people in the future.
Tablet Weaving
So I've strung up a 9 card pattern on my loom, just something to do at Crown tourney. Unfortunately I've picked colours that are to close in the colour pallet and, save the black edging, the pattern is disappearing. The lemonade version to this is that I able to read the pattern and know when I need to change the card direction, so overall, not a loss. I'll finish is anyway and try another set of colours that are of greater contrast. Stay turned for the outcome of future projects
Leather Water Bottles
I made one of these at Gulf Wars last year. It's a fairly simple process and fun to do, but time consuming (especaily the drying time for the leather). I'd like to try to teach a small group, I just need to put some time into the break down structure of work for students, answer questions for myself of where to start and stop steps. I also have test myself and make another bottle, to see if I recall the steps correctly. I've started on this by purchaing the leather tools I need last Saturday, from Tandy Leather. To my surprise the store moved and is now in walking distance from my house ( LOL). Stay tuned, I'll update as this project progresses.
Shield for Heavy Fighting
So I bought all the bits to build a shield at War. But since I got the pieces home the project of making a simple metal shield expanded to canvas covered, painted and decorated shield. Thanks to Thorolfr and his shop I have all the holes drilled into the shield blank and the center boss mounted. We left the screws long until after the canvaus is comeplete, only then will I cut these down, to address the extra space that will be required byt the canvas. I've decided to cover both sides of the shield with canvas and gesso, so the painted image of my arms will last. I will update progress on this project as I get to it ( yes I suddenly noticed my list is growing).
EAoD Provost Prize
This is at A&S this Nov...Its fast approaching & I'm still in need of volunteers, scarves and I have to develope the fight tree yet...This needs urgent attention on my part! I've set a goal of all lagging notices to be done this Friday.
EAoD Spring event
THis is a job previous Peceptor's have had the choice to do or not to do....I would like to do it. I've started to look for cheap sites outside of the city, with the underrstanding I'll have a small number of participants and the travel distances.
Cloth of Gold
Need to coodrinate with my co-autocrate on the developement of this event.
Rapier Armour
So I keep talking about this one and its lagging behind. Its all cut out and I really wish it woudn't lag as I'd love to assemble it.
Hmm.. I seem to have a number of projects, some with due dates, some involving other people, some simply personal..I have to prioratize these...but nothing's impossible.
Your thoughts?

This is the last of my Pennsic posts and catches the last of the unintentional, but fun things I got myself into.
But I feel, your the reader, need some context prior to the telling of this tale. I need to define the rank of "Lion" to you and it pertains to the Kingdom of Anstorra, a Lion is, only given once per reign, to a person whom the Crown of Ansteorra considers to contribute most to the ideals and milieu of the Society as a whole, and who serves as an inspiration to others. This Order shall be known as the Order of the Lions of Ansteorra,
The monday afternoon of war week held the Rapier Field Battle War point. This battle included the action of "Death from behind", of which you approach your foe from the back and lay your sword upon their shoulder that they may see the tip of the blade and say,” You are dead my lord/lady".
It made my heart glad to see our King on the field, all be it in crutches, but no less deadly. He was aided by one of Duke Aaron’s Men at Arms, Lord Alex Gladstone. The first past of the battle belonged to the East and her Allies, Ealdormere included. Ealdormere cleared the field under the command of Count Edward the Red. The second pass saw a similar victory, but at the loss of our King, who had been surrounded by Middle Kingdom forces. Before our king fell, he was defended by Lord Alex. The foe that took Lord Alex was no stranger to the rapier field. In fact I'd say Warder Maximillion of the Middle Realm is longer in the tooth to rapier then the Middle Kingdom has existed.
So I stood and watched in terror, on the edge of the battle field, as Warder Maximillion approached the rear guard of our king, preparing to perform” Death from behind". But as Max raised his sword a large red blur pivoted from the opposite side of the king to stand at his rear guard. The words came to me on the wind, "You shall not kill my King". Lord Alex stood between death by the hand of Warder Maximillion and King Roak. Then he fell...I really don't know who got our king. Then in the spirit of out game I introduced Lord Alex and Warder Maximillion to one another.
If you've read my earlier posts you already know of my Olympic endeavours on the Wednesday of War week, but not the impact. Unfortunately I awoke Thursday morning to realize the 100m trash had done some damage to my right ankle, as it was tender and bruised. Not wanting to risk further injury I bowed out of the Woods Battle (which sucked cause I really enjoy the woods battle, the closest experience to it is the ravine battle at Gulf Wars). So I spent the day resting my ankle (you know I sucked at that), doing a scroll blank for Master Hector, and arranging to deliver a pie to my friends of Ansteorra, after Ealdormere court.
Just before court Lord Alex came into Eoforwic camp, distraught at an injustice he’d witnessed in the woods. By his account, he had witnessed a deed misjudged by the Marshals, resulting in the expulsion of a combatant from the field. Lord Alex explained to me the Marshals had ejected a combatant from Ansteorra, who had been on his left, allowing him to witness the whole affair.
To spare you the reader any inaccuracies, I’ll shorten the details here. A combatant from Atlantia was really excited and hitting his opponents to hard by throwing his entire body behind his shots. The Atlantian was not noticed by the field marshals, so the Ansteorrian combatant laid his hand upon the Atlantian's chest and told him to calm down as he was hitting to hard. This action cause the Atlantian to scream for the marshals as the Ansteorrian combatant had broken the rules by touching him. The first Marshall to arrive on this now heated scene decided, without investigation, that the Ansteorrian combatant was out of line and called for his expulsion. A general hold was called and a group of marshals arrived. Lord Alex then attempted to explain what he had witnessed to the group of Marshals; was thanked for his input and excused; the marshals would render their decision. After some quick debate it was decided the Ansteorrian combatant would be expelled from the rapier field for the rest of War. This disappointed Lord Alex, who then left the field.
Being aware of the time for court fast approaching and having heard Lord Alex's story, I advised him that he'd done his diligence by reporting what he'd seen to the Marshal's, and that he should really prepare for court. I then put this matter out of my head and head up the hill to court.
In court, Lord Alex received his award of the Scarlet Banner. HRH Adreille delighted in using Alex's camera, on him, to record the affair.
With court complete I picked up my pie from the market and headed for Ansteorrian Royal Camp, where I intended to share pie with friends. The pie was shared with Don Robert, Ansteorian's newest Lion, his lady Sybil, THL Corvin and THL Anne, and Baroness Erny of Ealdormere. Over pie we discussed the details of the Woods battle, and to my surprise the story matched that of Lord Alex's. Don Robert was the expelled Anstorrian rapier combatant. Learning this I told him of Lord Alex and his disappointment in the Marshall's conduct in resolving the mater. Don Robert asked me to wait as he left the table. He returned with a dagger in hand and bad that I give it to Lord Alexander's Duke, to be gifted to Alexander. Baroness Erny then suggested Don Robert gift it to Lord Alex himself. Some grumbling ensued about having to go to the Bog, but a compromise was reached. Cheshire grinned, I volunteered to go ahead to Ealdormere populace and enquire if Duke Aaron would be available to meet Don Robert, then meet up with Don Robert in the Market to escort them back down to visit the Duke.
I skipped ( yes, on my bad ankle) down to Ealdormere Populace, fuelled by the thought of introducing the Duke and the Lion, each from different Kingdom's, only at Pennsic do cool things like this happen.
I hailed the camp upon approach and was answered by Duchess Rustquie. Why would I wish to speak with her husband? I responded in a flat tone, "I bear a message from The Lion of Ansteorria, Don Robert, who wishes to speak to his Grace on a matter that occurred in the rapier woods battle, involving his man, Lord Alexander Gladstone." Alex peaked his head out of the kitchen tent, but didn't come out.
Duke Aaron approached the fire. I repeated my response and asked him if he was available to meet Don Robert. He responded he would, sending me back up the hill (yes on my bad ankle, not that I complained openly). Then back down again, party in tow. Apparently in that time I understand the Duchess had some fun at Lord Alex's expense...who, thru the entire affair, was afraid he was going to be asked to return his belt to the Duke.
Our party of myself, Baroness Erny, the lady Sybil, and Don Robert arrived at Ealdoremere Populace, and were greeted by the Duke and Duchess. After introductions were made, Lord Alex was called out from the kitchen tent. After addressing the Duke on the fine quality of his men Don Robert asked to present Lord Alex with the dagger. In front of the Duke, Don Robert presented Lord Alex with the dagger as recognition of his sense of justice in the matter in the rapier woods battle that afternoon. Don Robert also charged Lord Alex to gift it to another, when he saw fit, and upon finding a noble with a similar sense of justice as his own. Then everybody celebrated with strawberry daiquiri’s.
The party left, but I remained, I was not yet done with Lord Alex. I then addressed the Duke on the matter of the Monday field battle and Lord Alex's defence of Ealdormere king. I think Lord Alex turned 3 shades of pink, not used to receiving that much attention. But I think he deserved it.
Got cha' Alex!
So I had a good belly laugh when I read the current Ursus yesterday because it made mention of my "Olympic" achievement at Pennsic. Although this story does still carry on with the theme "Got Ya!", it also goes 180 degrees in the opposite direction. Long and short of it, if you "GOT" someone be prepared to be "Got" yourself, as I was in this story.
This story, like all good ones, has a bit of history to set the context. At Pennsic 37, I was the Eoforwic city Mayor, and every morning good Hector hearlded me to the showers, even under threat of penalty.
Pennsic 38 saw Grom as the citie's Mayor, but there was no hearld to annouce his coming and going to the showers. So I saught out Hector and pointed out that the current Mayor was not being afforded the rights and privleges that had been afforded me the previous year and correct this injustice. Wednesday morning of war week I caught Grom readying himself to go to the showers and proceeded to find Hector. Grom was then ceromoniuosly heralded down to Showers, wondering who ordered the "hit", as I was told later. Got Ya GROM!
Justice was served, or so I thought, as I proceeded to perform my camp chore, taking out the garbage. The Marchmount house is generous enough to lend me their wagon in this effort. With the wagon loaded I started down the hill towards the bin. Hans then called for me to stop. Not thinking anything of this I stopped and turned to look up the hill for the reason why Hans would call out. The vision that met my eyes was horrifying. I'm told that the "OH SHIT" look on my face was priceless. At the top of the hill, coming towards me was a band, complete with drums, horns ( from the Roaming Roman Party) and Eoforwic banner, to hearld the garbage to the bin.
No way, shape or form was I getting caught by THAT band. With wagon of garbage in tow I spead down the hill at top speed.
It occured to me as I ran that my situation had become wrought with peral. If I tried to stop at all, for what ever reason ( I prayed no one stepped on the path in front of me), my knees would be taken out by the wagon of garbage and the band would have the oppertunity to catch me.
Luck smilied on me as I succeded stopping at the bin, off loading the garbage, and taking off again before the Band rounded the corner behind me. This afforded me the oppertunity to start up Servant's row to approach Eoforwic's back door. But it occured to me this up hill accent would kill any escape from the band. I dashed into the closest camp begging for sanctuary, which was granted. The Band, having lost me, patrolled the bottom of the hill. I was made to understand later, to the delight of some, that the Band woke house Iron lance.
Once the Band decided to go back to Eoforwic, and all was silent, I thanked my host and proceeded to leave, when I was told to HOLD. The Princess of Aethlmarc had a price for my sanctuary. She wanted the story of my pursuit. I relayed her the story.
Having escaped the Band I thought that was the end of the matter. Not so it would seem, when I was presented with my Olympic "Medal" ( the crushed pop can), in Baronial Count, for, as Hector put it, " The Fastest time in the 100m Trash Dash".

So I'd forgotten that there would be no practices of anykind in Eoforwic this weekend, and adventured out to the archery range south of the science centre this afternoon. Have to comment that the weather was perfect, overcast with the sun peaking out periodically, and a slight breeze.
I arrived to discover I had the short range butts to myself and proceeded to shoot. I'm very pleased with todays result, I did not loose a single shot to the field as all of my shots hit some where in the butt.
However, I ran into an interesting problem, the bottom limb of my bow seems twisted or is in the process of twisting. WIth every third shot I had to re-string the bow and the string kept popping off the end. I'm not certian what is causing the twist, I certainly don't leave the bow strung when not in use. Something to contemplate

So my second pre-planned Pennsic story involves Baron Aenus Oakhammer of Rising Waters. His excellency is, for the time that I've known him, a very warm and caring man. At Murder Melee, when the Barony recognized its members for various deeds and acts, pride dripped from the Baron's eyes in the form of joyful tears. In his moment of joy Baron Aenus Oakhamer called out to the Kingdom Bard, Hector of the Black Height, and asked that he bear witness as the Baron,"Envoked the right of naming!". But at the end of Murder Melee court I recall asking myself, "what did the baron name?".
At Trillium war, I turned in three scrolls blanks, as requested by thier Magesties to gift the the Kingdom of AnTir, to the Kingdom Signet, but not before showing them off to friend, including Master Hector. At dinner, Hector and I proved to be of like mind as we discussed Baron Oakhammer's Murder Melee incomplete declaration. We decided to show our appreciation for Baron Oakhammer in the form of a scroll. I set to work the week after Trillium war to design what Hector had requested.
Unfortunatley I did not enitrely finish the scroll for Pennsic and had to complete the work in my tent. With the tent flaps up, the cool air flowing through I must admit there is something delightfull about doing a scroll while camping. Everyone in the camp immedialty recognized the figure on the scroll as the Baron, so I took that as a measure of success.
The day of Ealdomere court I was giddy with anticipation. I now understand the joy one feels in knowing the scroll someone recieves in court was a result of my hand. When Baron Aenus was called into court, adressed by Hector, and then, looking completely, for lack of a better description, gob-smacked, I knew my work was done.
Got Ya Aenus!

If I was to give it a theme, it would be ,"Got ya!"
My deliemma is that I have a series of small stories to share, which would take me longer to write then this simple entry...And I like composing single entries..kind of like vinettes...So on to my first story and I'll add more later.
The theme ,"Got ya!", has significance in that I was involved in two schemes prior two Pennsic.
The first was a personal mission to provide, the newly titled, THL Bjarn Thorolfsson ( think I got that right), with a unique celebration at Pennsic. In truth, this one started in Chirstmas of 2008 at Eoforwic's usual dessert reveal. Among all the yule fun and cheer, Bjarn made the statment that Chirstmas was a wonderful time for family, but that his personal Chirstmas was Pennsic. I thought to myself that his wish was certianly easy to grant and put the thought away in my head for future planning. Bjarn would have Christmas at Pennsic 38.
My plan started to take fruition in late June'09 with the purchase of solar powered twinkling LED lights. What Christmas doesn't have lights! So thrilled with this idea, i could not contain it, and started to share and started to share it with others who I knew would be goign to War. Countess Domnail express interest in participating and her donation was some really cheesy ornaments from Value Village. Lady Katriona of Ardchreag was tickled and supplied the Christmas tree, complete with decorations. THL Asa, supplied the stocking, complete with Bjarn's name in Ruins ( excellent work) to hang from Bjarn's tent, along with thor's hammer ginger bread cookies ( these were yummy). Mistress Nicola was generous enough to supply the contents of the stocking, including viking action figures, foam axes, and vodka( I know there were other goodies, they are just escaping me for the moment). I also supplied a gift of an Acid etching scotch glass. I must say here, that while his reation was worht the work, the other rewarding element to this scheme was the amount of people who wanted to participate and donated thier efforts, I can't thank them all enough.
Having arrived at War the next huddle in this scheme was the "when" to pull it off. Here I'll thank Duchess Rustique for her suggetion that we pull it off durring the Romming Roman Party. I was a little nervous when the Monday evening of the party rolled out, as I wouldn't want to show up to Bjarn's tent to early and get caught trying to decorate it. I was getting edgy waiting in camp for the signal, but one lone blar of a horn told me the party had left Ealdomere and Nicola and I were off. It was the right choice as it gave us the perfect amount of time to decorate his tent. Its not easy to decorate a tent in the dark, but we managed. We didn't stick around to see his reaction, but I'm told the first thing Bjarn openned was the stocking.
The next moring, I heard some one wish Bjarn a,"Merry Christmas" as he walked up the hill to the battle. I'm made to understand he wore a very big grin all the way to the field. But I wasn't done with him, I had forgotten to leave the gift at his tent, so I delivered it while he was on the field. I got him twice.
But, this scheme went beyond the scope I had imagined. Nicola, Asa and Gunther, bless thier hearts and talents, put the icing on the cake of this shctick by composing Chirstmas carols and singing them to him after Baronial court.
Success was the perpetual smile I saw on his face.
I understand the Christmas tree was left as an offering to the Ruin stone...Have to find another tree for next Christmas.

Update..Hmm..
Life is good.
I'm coasting along at work, no stress there. Easy to say before tomorrow's year end review.
My garden is doing well. The strawberry plants are still producing fruit thru this extended cool summer season ( maybe I'll be lucky enough to get the berries before the squirrels). Green peppers are starting to fill out and take form. The watermelon seems to have suffered in this cool summer weather, I'm not going to worry about getting fruit off it this year. However, I have a very hearty 5' long pumpkin vine with 2 pumpkins forming. At the suggestion of my friend Holly I planted and grape vine, its growing at an exponetial rate. I hope it will produce fruit next season. As for the herbs, there's nice growth in my lavender, chives, spearmint and chamomile. As for flowers, everything I planted form seed has come, from the dwarf sunflowers, flax, roses to giant marrigolds. I just await the glads blooming, but that might happen while I'm away.
In the exercise department, I've been walking to and from the GO station and my house each day to get to work. That amounts to 80mins a day of steady walking. As a result I've lost 4 pounds in two weeks. I'm hoping that trend continues.
So work and life out side the SCA are good.
SCA life as the EAOD Preceptor is good. All plans for the academy are on track. More on this stuff in the future.
SCA projects prior to Pennsic; I'm still on track for the scroll blank and glass etching I promised. Unfortunatley it means I've had to sacrifice my own project. I was going to make linen rapier armour that breathes so I would not over heat on the rapier list. That will have to wait for next year.
Preparations for Pennsic travel include reviewing the online schedule, having the car serviced on Saturday; the tent set up and inspected tonight; and packing once this Sunday's practice is done. I am looking forward to my first zero night..its great that it falls on my birthday!
Speaking to practice, I tried my hand at archery last weekend and really enjoyed it. I was very thankfull for Holly and Gunther's instruction and suggestions. I'll be out to the range this weekend for sure

So I trolled in Saturday afternoon and went to Eoforwic camp to show off scrolls blanks I'd done to contribute tot the gift for An Tir; then off to Rosaki to give then to the Signet. I passed the blanks by her Excelleny Rachel, who always has a good eye for detail. It's empowering to recieve her commentary. I'm definately going to do more blanks. Then I got a sneak peak at Nicola's Barony Corenet whe Lyaden delivereed it. Very spiff!
Went back to the car to get my rapier kit and watch the really cool pinata some one brought for the kids..that was such a great idea!
Finally got kitted and onto the rapier list. Although I missed all the tourney's, I got to play her Excellency Erny, his Excellency Giovanni, Raffe & Tyler. Could not have asked for better group of opponents.. thanks for waiting and playing with me all of you!
Court had some really great surprises including Nicola's Court Baroness rank, Dafydd's Crucible, Quill's Hammer, Garwen's elevation annoucment ( great Shtick).
I even got some time to chat with thier Higness's about Academy business.
As for Sunday, I finally attacked the basment clutter. Everything now has a place, and I can started to work down there again. Projects include some etched glass work for Pennsic, new rapier armour and a burka coat.
later!

So I felt like the weekend was to short, as all weekends in the spring and summer seem to be, but I accomplished everything I set yout to complete.
Saturday had its ups and downs with class and crown.
The down was the disapointment I felt with my PMP class in the morning. While the topic of quality managment can be very interesting, its better when the class facilitator is prepared and knows that material. I think most people would agree that its pretty bad when the facilitator says,"I have no idea why this slide is here", in reference to a piece of important class content. I'm very happy I read ahead prior to going to class.
The up was watching Nigel & Adrielle win Crown. I was so nervous for them, especially when Nigel and Evander entered the second round with spears. My mind kept creeping back to the fall when Roak beat Nigel and spears in the finals. Words can not express the relief I felt when Nigel took the spear round and evened the field for a victory. The fact that he took Evander's spear and then gave it back, to play the round evenly (this act alone spoke volumnes to Nigel's intergrity) was a fanastic display of Chilvary. I have great hopes for them in thier reigh as Prince & Princess, then King & Queen. Now I just have to figure out when and where would be a good time to approach them on Academy matters and the Provost level fights I'd like to set up( to un-clog the dam as it were), it will be their charter after all.
Respecting Dagmar and Quill, I'm always proud when my friends compete for Crown. Especially for Quill who seems to be edging that much closer to his goal. He made the semis, and while I only saw his last fight Saturday, I was just a proud of him as I was last fall. It inspires me to hear him talk about fighting and how much thought he puts into his game.
Sunday was busy, I cleaned out the eves of the house, finished the yard work, cleaned out the garage, and got my garden boxes built in the back yard. Now I just need the dirt to fill them. As to the dirt delivery, it looks like this Wed & Thrusday are going to rain, leaving Friday for the day I should arrange delivery of the soil.
What a weekend.

Wow, last weekend just flew by!
I spent Friday evening finishing a scroll blank to take to Corination so I could get feedback on its composition, did some laundry and packed for the of my weekend. Didin't get to bed unitl midnight.
Saturday morning I was up early as I needed to be in my PMI exam class at Uof T for 8:30am. What a class, in the first leasson ( a week ago), the class was told to learn PMBok as the test standard and do not apply your every day practice. Yet, the class is constantly being interuppted by personal experience stories that are unrelated to the course of study. So it was amazing when we finished early. I'm happy to say I have scored well on the end of classes quizes ( these are supposed to be a taste of what the exame questions will be like). But, this also concerns me in that I might take this exam for granted and not apply myself as much as I should. I find my time on the Subway every moring a good place to do my readings.
Saturday afternoon I headed out to Cornination only to get caught in the traffic backup when the Toronto Police closed both directions fo the Gardiner Expressway. I think I sat in bumper to bumper traffice for and hour and was very thankful for the bottle of water I scoffed after class. Finally got to Corination and played the role of social butterfly, chatting with a number of people I know.
Highlites for me at Corination were, the positive and creative commentary on the scroll blank( I will definately be doing more); seeing Nicola take on the mantle of Trillium Hearld; seeing Elenor of Greyfells out to an event(looking lovely as always, I admire her Tudor costume every chance I get); seeing a squire's belt on Dagmar(and finally giving her her mug back); knowing Baroness Erny won the rapier tournament; Conner's elevation in the College of Hearlds to "H"_erald as well as her induction into the Order of the Wain, hearing Hector's poetry about an Aethalmarc Duke( he brought the king to tears); catching up with my leather merchant friend Draglin of Starleaf Gate (Windsor); Seeing my freind Quill give his best against Sir Sig; Wow, lots of good stuff at that event.
Saturday night I skooted up to Holland Landing for beer and Rock Band with Kim, Mike, Mark, Rob, Will & Jen. Went to sleep with the world spinning.
The world had thankfully stopped spinning by the time I got up Sunday moring. I spent Sunday at home resting on the couch, finishing laundry & watching movies and started to plan my next scroll blank, something Celtic thisn time.
I think next weekend is goign to be a Spring Cleaning weekend.
Cheers,
Yvonne

I'm home, and I smell of smoke because I took Ed the Red's class on making fire of flint and steel. I've had an awesome day of classes at FITP today. Classes I took inlcuded "The preparation of wool from raw product to prepared to spin", "Calligraphy 101", "Silverpoint drawing", "Black Hours Illumination" and of course Ed's class.
I enjoyed the preparation of wool class, taught by Brigid. She's very insightfull and attentive to what students are doing. No question was left unanswered. I got all my questions respecting wasching hte wool answered, now I just gotta pu it to practice. But that'll wait unitl the weather is more favorable and I can do the work outdoors.
Ed's class on Flint an steel was just fun. I mean I had permission to set stuff on fire. How can that not be fun. I now know how to start a fire in that manner and make charred linen. THe learning curve it getting used to the idea that for a brief moment in time I'm holding a flaming ball in my hands unitl I get it into the fire pit. Might be easier to start in the fire pit, just an after thought.
Nicola's Calligraphy class was a repeat for me as I took it the last time I was at FITP. But I'm a beliver in refresher courses. I think my hand for calligraphy is slowly improving. I must comment here that Nicola's enthuisaium for the topic is infectious.
I'm sorry to say I missed the name of the instructor for the Silver point drawing class, but I gotta comment to the amazing knowledge base he had. As to the skill itself, I quite enjoyed it and intent to slowly explore this skill.
But, my favorite class was the "Black hours illumination class" Rachel was wonderfully knoledgable, patient, engaging, and enthusastic about the topic. The practical excersice was incredibly relaxing and fun. I think I've been missing something in not doing scrolls, or at least blanks. This is definately something I wasn to devote more energy too exploring.
This also brings me to the topic of Leather Water Bottles. While at Gulf Wars this year, not only did I learn to make a leather water bottle, but, Mater Tye of Trimaris, also gave me enough information to teach how to make them with other people. When I came bake to Eoforwic and told them of these great bottles I was immediatley asked to host a work shop. Today has re-ignited my thoughts to planning this workshop. My first thought was to work shop size and howmany people can I handle at one time. I'm still wrestling with that and the details rest of the obvious what, where, when questions. I think this little project will also wait for better weather.
Other thoughts that buzzed thought my head today included my planter in the front yard. I thikn I'm goig nto plant Dwarf Sunflowers, Marrigolds and Narsium. HTat just leave some planning of the garden below the front kitchen wondow and the back yard garden.
It been a busy day! And I'm happy for it!

So I started a new job three weeks ago and its been great, challenging and confusing all at the same time. The confusion is routed in a feeling that is best described as, in the previous job I was always on the go, usually working late and on weekends, at what felt like a 150km/hr pace. The new job has quite a learning curve to it and I'm only going what feels like a 25km/hr. I realize its best to be patient and ease myself into this new line of work, even accept that I now have time for me (as rare as that is). Its a challenge to pace myself down and feel productive at the same time. My co-workers assure me everyone in the firm goes thru this phase of, for lack of a better word, uncertianty and not to be concerned.
The weekend has been good. Saturday morning I took my cat Harry to the vet for his check up and shots. We got good news, in the past two years Harry lost 5 pounds. He was previously 21 pounds in 2007. He now weighs 16 pounds. He didn't even fuss as the vet examined hime this time. I spent the rest of the day Saturday with Rob as we shoped for Grom's birthday present, trolled thru Home Depot for ideas, got some loner armor form Gunther & Nicola ( If it didn't say it, thanks a bunch for that). Saturday evening was spent at Grom's birthday party which I really enjoyed. The food, people, conversations, commrodery, drumming and overall sense of good will were wonderfull.
Sunday has been odd and I take some responisblity for that as I didn't take my vitamin D right away. The lack of D has left me lathargic and groggy all day. But I trudged thru it enought to finish laundry and groucery shopping.
As for tomorrow, I will be meeting my new Cat Sitter, for Harry when work occasionally sends me away from home and vacations.I hope to go out to Archeag fight practice to watch Rob do some fighting and maybe get some fighting in for myself.
